Thankfully, the Buss family then came out and denied this report, according to the LA Daily News:
“We unanimously agree that we have no intention of ever selling the Lakers, and intend to keep ownership of the team in our family for generations to come,” the statement read.
This is good to hear. I think keeping the Los Angeles Lakers a family business is very important going forward instead of just having a group of rich guys bunch together and make a bid for the franchise.
Of course, the Buss kids don’t always got along, and the Ding article said that Jim and Jeanie haven’t spoken since Mike Brown was fired, so they’ll have to work on things in the future.
But, hopefully their love for the Lakers – a franchise that their father Jerry turned into one of the greatest teams in all sports – will help them keep the purple and gold in their family for decades to come.
