D’Antoni doesn’t expect Kobe to play during the pre-season

NBA: Brooklyn Nets at Los Angeles Lakers

Mike D’Antoni says that he doesn’t expect Kobe Bryant to play during any of the Los Angeles Lakers‘ pre-season games.

The following transcript from Media Day is provided by Lakers.com:

[pullquote]Q: On whether he expects Kobe to be ready for any preseason games:

D’Antoni: I am not expecting it. He’s going to try everything he can to get back as soon as he can. I don’t think there’s a timetable or day. I have no idea. Nobody knows. He’s just going to take it day by day and try to get it better. Doctors will let him know and he’ll let them know.[/pullquote]

Of course, this news isn’t all that surprising seeing as Bryant didn’t announce any kind timetable or return date during yesterday’s Media Day. Many people still expect Kobe to be ready to go for opening night at the end of October, however, he isn’t even running at full body weight yet. Then again, this is the Black Mamba we’re talking about, and even at this point, I still wouldn’t put a large amount of money on him not being ready to go for opening night.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
