It’s never too early to look at fantasy basketball projections, and if you are a Lakers fan, chances are you would like to land at least someone from the purple and gold. With that being said, you don’t want to be the Laker homer who drafts a player way too early. Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash are the leaders on the squad, so it should come as no surprise that they are the top options in standard leagues and daily fantasy sports. So when should you target each one of them?
Obviously, the Achilles injury will play a pretty big role in his production in 2013-2014. No one knows for sure when he will make his return to the court, which means that he will have a lot more value in daily fantasy sports as opposed to full season leagues. When healthy, he is still a volume scorer with good, but not great, efficiency numbers. The injury and age knocks him down more than most are used to, but he is still a guy that will likely be taken in the 40-45 range overall.
Despite being a year older, Gasol might rebound from a subpar season a year ago. Him and Dwight Howard never seemed to understand how to play together, so the Spaniard’s numbers suffered. He will have more freedom to do what he does best this year, so expect him to remain close to a top 50 fantasy basketball player.
See a theme here? Obviously, Nash is not in his MVP prime, but he is still a somewhat valuable daily fantasy sports piece to target. The NBA has really evolved at the point guard level, and that hurts an aging Nash who was never a particularly good defender in the first place. He’ll be available in the middle to late rounds, but don’t wait much past the top 75 picks in your draft to get him.
