Kobe Bryant loves to dole out a little bit of trash talk, though he normally goes easy on Michael Jordan as he respects him so much.
However, sometimes, the Black Mamba just can’t help himself.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, Bryant told the story of how he once had to remind MJ that he scored 42 points against him in just one half.
“Michael was dishing [trash talk] out to me. Years later after I scored 81 he was barking about how I could never do it against him, ‘There’s no way you’re going to score 80 on me! I would’ve fouled out!’ and we just went back and forth,” Bryant said. “I normally try to stay pretty cool when it comes to MJ because I look up to him so much, but on that particular occasion I had to remind him that I did have 42 in one half against him…so…”
Yes, it’s true: Kobe once dropped 42 in one half against MJ and his Washington Wizards back in 2003 and would end the game with 55 points.
In fact, that was the last matchup between Kobe and his idol as Jordan retired for the final time at the end of that season.
Still, I’m sure the trash talking match didn’t end there, and Jordan’s response was likely just as good as Bryant’s.
