Lakers Draft Rumors: Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid “both seriously considering” return to college

Seeing as the Lakers are set to have a lottery pick this year, fans of the purple and gold should be hoping for all the top eligible players to declare for this year’s draft.

When you’re projected to receive the sixth pick, it really is a case of the more the merrier.

However, according to ESPN’s Chad Ford, two of the biggest names in college basketball are “seriously considering” returning to school for another year.

“Both are seriously considering returning,” Ford writes, “with Parker so much so that several scouts are claiming he’s coming back to school.”

Ford makes it clear that he isn’t convinced that these two players will pass up the opportunity to be a high lottery pick and an instant millionaire, though, noting that there is still a few weeks to go before we reach the declaration deadline.

Players who are projected to be a lottery pick rarely pass up the opportunity, no matter how skilled they are. Who’s to say they won’t return to college next season and suffer a major injury or a extreme dip in production? Sure, it’s unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

At the end of the day, the smartest thing for both of these players is to make the leap to the NBA right now.
