Lakers in four-way trade talks to get Dwight Howard by trading Andrew Bynum AND Pau Gasol

UPDATE 2: ESPN and multiple reports and now saying that Dwight-to-L.A. is complete WITHOUT Pau being involved!

A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is complete, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night.

UPDATE: this deal could be finalized Friday morning according to ESPN:

A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is “very close” to happening and could be agreed upon Friday, league sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard.

ESPN are also saying that the Sixers aren’t worried about getting assurances from Bynum that he’d re-sign next summer. Philadelphia is close to New Jersey – Drew’s hometown – and he’d be the man on a pretty good Sixers squad.

Here’s a new one. It’s been quiet for a while but now it seems trade talks for Dwight Howard are once again picking up steam.

While no deal is imminent, Yahoo! Sports reports that the trade talks have progressed through the week.

In the potential deal. the Lakers would send out Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol and receive Al Harrington and Dwight Howard back. The Orlando Magic would take on Gasol with the hope of moving him for younger pieces and assets – Minnesota maybe? – and Aaron Afflalo. The Philadelphia 76ers would acquire Andrew Bynum while sending Andre Iguodala to the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets have a $13 million trade exception from their Nene trade, meaning they can take on a contract of up to $13 million into the exception; this would be key, as the Magic want to lose bad contracts.

The report said that the trade is fluid and pieces – such as Gasol and Bynum – could end up at different destinations. Also worth nothing that four-way trades can get very complicated and don’t always happen.

Stay tuned for any more updates.
