Well, that was unexpected.
After free agency got underway at midnight New York City time, the Los Angeles Lakers put in a call to a man they seemingly wanted to sign pretty badly: Timofey Mozgov.
Adrian Wojnarowski from The Vertical soon reported that the Lakers were talking to Mozgov, and then within a matter of minutes the deal was done.
According to Woj, Mozgov and the Lakers have agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal. It’s not yet clear if all four years are guaranteed.

Mozgov has career averages of 6.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game, though he put up better numbers during his first 46 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, averaging 10.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 points in 25 minutes per game while shooting 59 percent from the field.
At 7’1″, Mozgov will give the Lakers the big body down low that they have been looking for, though only time will tell just how well the Russian will fit into Luke Walton’s system.
