Lakers News: Team signs Mitch Kupchak to multi-year contract extension

Finally, some good news!

The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Tuesday night that they had signed general manager Mitch Kupchak to a multi-year contract extension.

The deal was first reported by ESPN Los Angeles’ Ramona Shelburne, who says that Kupchak was due to be a free agent in the summer of 2015.

During uncertain times, this is a smart move by the Lakers.

Kupchak has been a member of the Lakers’ front office since 1986 and has served as the team’s general manager since 2000.

Kupchak, who will turn 60-years-old next month, will now be on board during the team’s rebuilding years, something that he has dealt with before when he landed Pau Gasol in 2008, a move that lead to three straight NBA Finals appearances and two championships.
