After selecting D’Angelo Russell with the second overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, it appears that the Lakers will pass on Rajon Rondo during free agency.
According to Sean Deveney from Sporting News, it is now “doubtful” that the Lakers will sign Rondo when he becomes a free agent next month.
Rondo was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in December, though his subpar performance for Mark Cuban’s team and a clash with head coach Rick Carlisle meant the point guard’s stay in Texas would wind up being short lived.
Deveney says the Lakers’ free agency focus will now turn to big men, especially LaMarcus Aldridge who is expected to leave the Portland Trail Blazers next month.
The Lakers “feel they have a legitimate shot” at landing Aldridge, per Deveney. Kevin Love will also be on their radar, according to the report.
