It’s been a couple of weeks now, so it seems about time for another Kevin Love to the Lakers rumor.
According to one report today, Love will either sign with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2015 when he becomes a free agent or re-sign with his current team, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“There are some interesting names out there including Kevin Love, who can become a free agent in 2015,” wrote Frank Isola from the NY Daily News. “But the word is Love will either re-sign with Minnesota or head to the Lakers, which sounds more plausible.”
If true, this may play to the Lakers’ advantage in the event that the Timberwolves decide to trade their All-Star big man.
If teams truly believe that Love will only sign with the Lakers if he’s traded away from Minnesota, they may shy away from making a move for the L.A. native. Therefore, Love could end up being expedited to the Lakers for little or nothing next season in order for the Timberwolves to get at least something in return.
Also, if the Lakers save the majority of their cap space this summer as expected, they could absorb Love’s contract without having to send large contracts back to Minnesota in a potential deal.
Then again, the Timberwolves may just decide against trading Love altogether with the hope that he’ll re-sign with them in the summer of 2015.
