It looks like the Los Angeles Lakers won’t be facing Dwight Howard‘s Houston Rockets on Christmas Day.
Many fans expected to see Howard make his first return to Staples Center on December 25th, yet according to Ira Winderman, the Miami Heat will be the Lakers’ Christmas opponent:

At least that’s the preliminary word based on the nearly completed draft of the 2013-14 NBA schedule sent this week to teams and league broadcast partners, the Sun Sentinel has learned.
According to the all-but-finalized draft of the 2013-14 NBA schedule, the Sun Sentinel also has learned that the Heat will visit Staples Center on Dec. 25 to face the Los Angeles Lakers, a somewhat surprising scheduling move considering the Lakers lost center Dwight Howard to theHouston Rockets in free agency and there remain questions about the return timetable of guard Kobe Bryant from last season’s torn Achilles.[/pullquote]
Interesting scheduling. If this is the actual Christmas Day game for the Lakers, when will they face Howard and the Rockets? An opening night match-up would seem a little risky for the league seeing as Bryant may still be rehabbing from Achilles surgery earlier this year.
Maybe instead of the Christmas game being billed as “Bryant’s revenge” in a match-up against Howard, it’ll be “Bryant’s future teammate?” in LeBron.
