It appears that Sasha Vujacic is still pursuing a return to the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers had some interest in Vujacic back in July, but that interest waned when the team secured a deal with Jordan Farmar. However, Vujacic is still working out in L.A. and is looking to land a deal with an NBA team, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein:
[pullquote]Sources briefed on the Slovenian’s thinking told ESPN.com that Vujacic is working out feverishly in L.A. in hopes of landing an NBA roster spot following his stint with Anadolu Efes that began during the 2011-12 lockout.
Word is Vujacic, now 29, has been playing well in L.A. pickup games and plans to stay stateside in pursuit of an NBA deal as opposed to returning to Europe.
“He’s in the best shape of his life,” one source offered, “which is saying something because Sasha has always taken care of himself.” [/pullquote]
Also, according to tweets from Stein, it appears that the two-time NBA champion has also been working out at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo, and he apparently impressed on-lookers last week:
It should be noted that former Lakers working out at the team’s practice facility during the off-season is nothing new and doesn’t mean an imminent signing is around the corner. For example, last year – despite being traded months earlier – Derek Fisher was spotted working out with the team just weeks before training camp.
Of course, it’s possible that the Lakers could still sign Vujacic, but it seems unlikely seeing as the purple and gold are already pretty deep at the guard positions.
