Pau Gasol isn’t expected to play again this season as he’s still suffering from the effects of vertigo. This means that the free-agent-to-be may have already played his last game with the purple and gold.
However, according to Mitch Lawrence from the New York Daily News, the Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to re-sign the two-time NBA champion this summer.
Gasol has admitted that he’d need to see changes if he re-signs with the Lakers, and it appears that the franchise may be planning to part ways with Mike D’Antoni, a move that would likely appease the Spaniard.
Seeing as the Lakers aren’t expected to pursue any big name free agents this summer, it seems plausible that Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak could look to re-sign Gasol to a one-year deal in order to try and stay competitive next season.
While Gasol has struggled with various health problems all year long, he’s been extremely productive when on the court, averaging 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. He also leads the team with a player efficiency rating of 19.37.
