Now that the madness of free agency is over – and the team finally hired a head coach – the purple and gold are focussed on sending out training camp invites.
The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a training camp deal with Michigan State’s Keith Appling, according to Shams Charania from RealGM.
Appling, 22, went undrafted in June after spending four years with the Spartans. The 6’1″ guard averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 36 percent from three-point range last season.
It looks like Appling will be signing a regular non-guaranteed camp deal, according to Charnia.
Appling will have a tough time earning a spot on the team seeing as they currently have three other point guards in Steve Nash, Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson, though there are definitely minutes to be earned under new head coach Byron Scott, meaning the undrafted rookie will have a chance to make a good impression on Scott and the team’s front office once training camp begins in the fall.
