Lakers source says team didn’t offer Lamar Odom roster spot

Los Angeles Lakers v Oklahoma City Thunder, Game 6

Yesterday, a report emerged claiming the Los Angeles Lakers had told Lamar Odom he’d have a roster spot waiting with the purple and gold if he attended rehab to treat his alleged drug problem.

According to Serena Winters, the story is false:

[pullquote]Per team source, there was no such conversation between Kupchak and Odom’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, about re-joining the team. The Lakers organization still thinks very fondly of Odom and is genuinely concerned for his well-being. However, the story that a Lakers roster spot would be waiting for Odom should he complete treatment at a rehabilitation center is not true.[/pullquote]

I’m not surprised to hear that the story wasn’t true; as much as it would’ve been a great Hollywood story, the Lakers are a business and won’t just offer roster spots to players for the sake of it.

The Los Angeles Times reported today that Odom was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the early hours of this morning.
