Lakers scorer Nick Young found out first hand (with his right hand) that guarding Kobe Bryant can lead to painful consequences.
While matching up with Bryant during practice on Thursday, Young attempted to steal the ball and instead jammed his thumb against the five-time NBA champion’s arm. This lead to a torn ligament in Young’s thumb and would require surgery in order to be fully repaired.
So, on Monday, Young headed to the hospital while his teammates traveled down to San Diego for their first preseason game.
However, before heading into surgery, Young made sure to send out one last Instagram post, and it served as somewhat of a warning for other NBA defenders.
“#It’s time #PrayForMe,” Young wrote in the caption, along with “#ThisIsWhatHappenWhenYouGuardKobe” and “#DefenseHurt.”
You’ve gotta love Swaggy P: Even in times like these he still manages to keep it light.
However, despite head coach Byron Scott saying on Sunday that Young could recover in 4-6 weeks, the L.A. native is expected to be out for around 8 weeks, according to the Lakers.
Get well soon, Swaggy! We need you out there on the court.
