hoopfacts: April 29, 1970 Los Angeles Lakers guard Jerry West hit a 60-foot desperation shot at the buzzer to tie Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. In overtime, however, the Lakers scored just six points and lost 111-108. Back in those days, there were no three-pointers…had there been, this shot would’ve won the game for the Lakers.

I can tell you this; when you’re trying to even the playing field between larger revenue markets and maybe not so larger revenue markets, the one thing that you can’t do is that you can’t revenue share the advantage of the Laker fans, the Laker history, the Laker expertise in our basketball department. No matter what rules they put out there, what formulas, I still think the Lakers still have an advantage because we have such a strong and loyal fan base and the legacy that we have and the great players that have played here and the people that have worked in the organization. So, I think the Lakers always have an advantage no matter what.

Lakers vs. Denver playoffs schedule

Metta World Peace has been suspended for seven games without pay by the NBA for the elbow to James Harden’s head, shown in the video above. According to Lakers.com, a statement from Commissioner David Stern said: “The concussion suffered by James Harden demonstrates the danger posed by violent acts of this kind, particularly when they are directed at the head area. We remain committed to taking necessary measures to protect the safety of NBA players, including the imposition of appropriate penalties for players with a history of on-court altercations.” Lakers General Manager, Mitch Kupchak, also released a statement: “Metta has for the most part been a model citizen both on and off the court since joining the Lakers. Still, his most recent lapse in judgement is not to be condoned or accepted. His actions could have seriously injured another player, and his absence during this suspension will hurt our team as well. While we accept the league’s decision, we will be supportive of Metta and try to help him be more professional on the court.” MWP will begin serving his suspension Thursday night when the Lakers play the Kings in their season finale in Sacramento. Matt Barnes – who is nursing a sprained right ankle but says he will be ready to go in the playoffs – will not join the team on the trip to Sacramento. Devin Ebanks today hurt his left hand while lifting weights, although Ebanks tweeted that he was fine, and he would seem the likely candidate to start Thursday’s game at the 3. The Lakers are not expected to call up small forward Christian Eyenga from the D-Fenders for more depth at the forward spot, according to Mike Bresnahan.
