On Tuesday, Pau Gasol joined Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson on ESPNLA 710. He discussed not only the current state of the Lakers, but also his future with the team:
It’d be hard for me to go through another season of uncertainty, of being that player that can always be interchangeable or moved away for the right opportunity that will come along or not.
We’ll revaluate (at the end of t he season) but at the end of the day, I’m getting closer to the last few years of my career and I want to have an enjoyable time in a situation where I’m wanted, used properly and I can maximise my qualities and talents.
Gasol still sounds unhappy with the situation he’s in: he obviously thinks that he should be used more on the block, and I have to agree with him there.
He also talks about being in a situation for the remainder of his career where he can feel happy and needed – his contract runs out in 2014, so even if the Lakers don’t end up dealing him to another team before then, he’ll have the opportunity to choose where he wants to play.
Pau has reiterated time and time again that he wants to be a Laker, though the situation will obviously have to be the right one for him to stay in Los Angeles. We’ll see what happens down the road.
