When the Lakers traded for Pau Gasol back in 2008, many thought the Grizzlies made the worst trade in NBA history. However, after letting things settle, the trade worked out well for both teams, mostly thanks to the Lakers sending the draft rights for Gasol’s brother – Marc – to Memphis.
Could the two teams look to get involved in trade talks once again this summer? Maybe, according to the NY Daily News:
The Lakers are committed to moving Pau Gasol — the fall guy for their second-round ouster against the Thunder and previous playoff failures — even if they have to take back less talent. As long as Heisley retains the Grizzlies, Memphis will always have interest. Heisley has always wanted to bring Gasol back, pairing him with his brother, Marc.
The Lakers want to move Pau and the Grizzlies want Pau back to team up with his brother. It could happen.
Pau would be comfortable in Memphis playing alongside his brother. He still has ties there – his charity contributions being one of them – and the Grizzlies are good enough to make a strong push in the West.
It has been reported that the Grizzlies will try to trade Rudy Gay this summer. While they denied the reports, that doesn’t mean it’s true. O.J. Mayo is a free agent this season and it looks like Memphis might not be able to retain him. The Grizzlies have had interest in Josh McRoberts in the past. How about Gay and a re-signed Mayo to the Lakers for Gasol and McRoberts?
The Lakers get their atheletic, young, scoring small forward in Gay and a capable back-up for Kobe Bryant in Mayo. The Grizzlies finally get their hands on McRoberts and get to team up the Gasol brothers.
