With a 2-10 January record, it is a really sad time for everyone in Laker Land. Things have gotten so bad that we’re all starting to wonder if this team can even make the playoffs. I still say it’s early in the season, but how long can we keep saying that? We are left with no choice, but to compare our record with other teams in the bottom of the Western Conference.
Luckily for the Lakers, the bottom of the playoff race in the West is not as strong as it once was. With a 22-22 record, the Houston Rockets currently hold the eighth-see in the West. The Lakers are only three losses behind them and ironically play them on April 17th, which is the final day of the season. If things don’t dramatically turn around soon, this game could be extremely huge. If the Lakers find a way to win this final match up, their season series would be tied a two a piece, so the Lakers better start winning some inner conference games.
The Portland Trail Blazers are also in the mix with a 21-21 record. The Lakers see this team two more times before the end of the season, which will give them a chance to do damage to the Blazers’ playoff dreams, while increasing their own hopes.
The Lakers also play the Minnesota Timberwolves three times before the end of this season. The Timberwolves are currently at 17-22 so they will also be in the mix of things when it comes to trying to find a spot in the bottom of the Western Conference.
Another team in the hunt is the Dallas Mavericks who are currently 18-24. The Lakers play against this team two more times, which will prove to be extremely important.
Things are really bad right now for this Laker team, but there is still hope. If these guys can find out what works for all of them and return back to winning ways, this horrible season can definitely be salvaged. If chemistry is found in this roster, the Lakers will be a tough playoff opponent no matter who they end up facing.
But first, the Lakers have to reach the playoffs. At this time of the season and against these other teams battling for a playoff spot, each game is becoming more and more important.
