Report: League executives “strongly believe” Dwight Howard will sign with Houston, though Howard is undecided

We’re now less than a week away from the start of free agency on July 1st, a time when many teams will be trying to convince Dwight Howard to sign with them. With Chris Paul now pretty much locked up with Clippers after they signed Doc Rivers, Howard will be the biggest name on the free agent market, and teams will be going all out to try and land him.

According to Fox Sports Ohio:, league executives around the league now “strongly believe” that Howard will sign with the Houston Rockets. However, in the next sentence, the report says that “not one” of the executives are certain of Howard’s decision – and neither is Dwight himself:

[pullquote]In the most-pressing Lakers news, league executives are beginning to strongly believe center Dwight Howard will sign with the Houston Rockets in free agency. That said, not one of those executives is certain of Howard’s actual plans, and he too appears to remain undecided.[/pullquote]

Personally, I too see Houston as the biggest threat to the Lakers – they’re a young team with a lot of potential – though I still would be surprised if Howard left L.A. this summer.

From the day we traded for Howard, I always felt that he would re-sign with the Lakers. The Rockets have since become a more attractive destination after acquiring James Harden and they subsequently improved immensely last season, but I still see Howard re-signing with the Lakers when it’s all said and done.
