Russell Westbrook on Jodie Meeks’ 42 points: “He just happened to get lucky”

Russell Westbrook isn’t about to join the Jodie Meeks fan club anytime soon.

Meeks scored 42 points against Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday when the Lakers pulled out a surprise 114-110 victory at Staples Center.

Meeks was spectacular in the win as he went 11-of-18 from the floor for his career-high of 42. Meeks also played great defense on Westbrook, who went 7-for-23 from the floor and ended the game with 8 turnovers.

However, it was a different story on Thursday night as the Thunder blew out the Lakers 131-102 on their home floor.

By comparison, Meeks went 6-of-15 from the field for 19 points in the loss, while Westbrook registered 29 points on 9-for-17 shooting, along with 9 assists and just 3 turnovers.

This caused Westbrook to “diss” Meeks’ 42-point performance.

“He just happened to get lucky the first time,” Westbrook said of Meeks, according to Royce Young. “We’re not worried about what Jodie Meeks does.”

In all seriousness, Meeks should pay no attention to this comment from Westbrook.

Jodie’s been spectacular all season long, and he’s played hard every single night. The 26-year-old may not be headed for the playoffs like Westbrook and the Thunder, though he is almost definitely in for a big payday this summer, so that’s definitely something for him to smile about.
