The Jeremy Lin trade is already paying off for the Los Angeles Lakers, and their new point guard hasn’t even played a game for the purple and gold yet.
It was announced today that Taiwanese tire company Maxxis are set to sponsor the Lakers this season after seemingly deciding not to renew their deal with the Houston Rockets.
“We are excited to welcome Maxxis as a new marketing partner of the Los Angeles Lakers for this season,” Lakers senior vice president of business operations and chief operating officer, Tim Harris, said in a statement. “We showcase similar values, including commitment to providing high-quality products and ensuring that our products measure up to the toughest competitors in our respective industries.”
According to the press release, Maxxis are now “the Official Tire of the Lakers” and “will receive promotional opportunities including courtside LED TV signage and a banner in the Toyota Sports Center practice arena.”
This isn’t the first time that Maxxis have followed the Asian-American point guard to a new team.
According to Darren Rovell from ESPN, Maxxis signed a sponsorship deal with the New York Knicks shortly after the birth of “Linsanity” in 2012 and then decided to follow Lin to Houston later that year when he signed a three-year deal with the Rockets.
