This was the moment that Kentucky forward Julius Randle discovered that he’d be rocking the purple and gold next season and beyond.
With the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Randle on Thursday night.
It was a dream come true for the 19-year-old who admitted that he was a Laker fan after his impressive solo workout at the team’s practice facility last week, and despite falling to seventh after being projected at times to be a top-five pick in this year’s draft, Randle said he was grateful to have he opportunity to play for the purple and gold.
“I think I should’ve went higher, but the team’s will regret it,” Randle said on ESPN shortly after his selection. “L.A. is the perfect spot for me. I get to play in a great city.”
During his one season at Kentucky, Randle averaged 15.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
