DeAndre Jordan may be a contender for the Defensive Player of the Year this season – even Lakers head coach Byron Scott thinks so – but he was beaten on this play by rookie point guard Jordan Clarkson.
During Tuesday night’s game against the Clippers, Clarkson ended up being guarded by Jordan after the big man switched onto him during a defensive sequence.
Sensing the mismatch, Clarkson sized up DeAndre and eventually drove past the 26-year-old center.
However, his work wasn’t done yet.
Jordan was lurking behind Clarkson as he went in for the layup, so the Missouri product had to pull out a little circus shot in order to get the shot off.
The play ended up being a three-point opportunity for the rookie as Jordan caught Clarkson’s arm as he was going up to release the ball, though he was still able to finish off the tough layup.
Overall, this was a great play by the 22-year-old. He showed no fear when attacking Jordan and also displayed great concentration to finish the play despite being fouled by the probable DPOY.
