Worst Team Has Ended With Top Pick Only 2 Times Since 2001

Tanking has it’s flaws.

Even though the Minnesota Timberwolves ended with the worst record in the NBA this season with just 16 wins, their chances of holding onto the top overall pick are slim.

Since 2001, only 2 teams have held onto the top pick after ending with the worst record in the league: The Cleveland Cavaliers (tied for worst record with Denver Nuggets) in 2003 and the Orlando Magic in 2004.

Therefore, the Lakers could be one of the teams to jump aheadĀ of the Timberwolves tonight, though there’s just a 11.9 percent chance of that happening.

The 2015 NBA Draft Lottery will be televised live tonight on ESPN at 5:30 PM Pacific Time.
