Out of all the people who have said they have interest in purchasing the Los Angeles Clippers, my vote goes to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Why? The boxer says he wouldn’t cover up the Lakers’ banners if he were in charge.
“First thing I’d do is not cover up the Lakers banners,” Mayweather told Mashable, while also confirming that he has serious interest in purchasing the Clippers. “I think they should stand out. It makes the players hungry which will lead to championships.”
Clippers coach Doc Rivers began covering up the Lakers’ banners at the beginning of this season as a way to make the Staples Center seem like more of a home for his players. The Clippers also recently enraged Laker fans by tying red, white and blue balloons to the statues outside of Staples Center.
Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA for life on Tuesday by new commissioner Adam Silver after the Clippers owner was heard making numerous racist remarks on an audio recording obtained by TMZ.
Silver is now seeking to receive the backing of 75 percent of the league’s owners to force Sterling to sell the Clippers, and, if successful, Mayweather will be ready to put in a bid for the franchise.
Here’s hoping his potential bid turns out to be a winning one.
