Welcome to the Lakers, Jeremy Lin!

The 25-year-old point guard was formally introduced to the L.A. media today at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo, at which time it was revealed that Lin would become the first player to wear number 17 for the purple and gold since Andrew Bynum.

Rick Fox, Jim Pollard and Ron Sobie are the only other Lakers players to wear 17, according to the L.A. Times. Fox, who turns 45-years-old today, said Lin was “blessed” to be able to wear the Lakers’ purple and gold.

Lin said he chose to switch to number 17 as Xavier Henry already rocks the number he wore in Houston (number 7). Lin also wore 17 while in the D-League and during the “Linsanity” period with the Knicks.
