When ESPN ranked Kobe Bryant as the 25th best player in the NBA earlier this week, everyone was waiting for his reaction.

Would he give an expletive-laden interview? Maybe a simple tweet saying “lol” would suffice?

Bryant has done neither so far, and it seemed he was just going to ignore the ranking altogether. That’s until Eric Pincus from the Los Angeles Times spotted the Black Mamba’s avatar change.

Kobe recently changed his Twitter avatar to a photo of a grizzly bear’s head; after going down with the Achilles injury in April, Bryant went on an infamous late-night Facebook rant. Within the post, Bryant shared his mindset with the words “If you see me in a fight with a bear, pray for the bear.”

That’s where the grizzly avatar came from (don’t worry, he doesn’t want to be traded to Memphis).

However, Bryant’s new avatar will be a little more confusing for some: it is simply the number 1225.

As Pincus point out, during the off-season, the Lakers were predicted by ESPN to finish 12th in the West. Now, the news outlet has ranked Bryant as the 25th best player in the league.

It appears this number will be Kobe’s motivation this season as he attempts to prove the critics wrong by coming back from this injury strong while also leading his “underdog” Lakers to the playoffs.
