Kobe Bryant lived in Italy until he was 13-years-old. Could the Black Mamba return to Europe once again before it’s all said and done?
According to Spanish website El Periodico (translation via HoopsHype) Bryant says that he “would be willing to help [Barcelona] with whatever and that he would like to finish his career with Barça next to Pau Gasol.”
Of course, there’s a chance Kobe was joking or something was lost in translation, though it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the five-time NBA champion end his career overseas.
During the 2011 NBA lockout, Bryant expressed interest in playing for a team in Italy, so seeing him team up alongside his good friend Pau in his hometown of Barcelona isn’t all that farfetched.
It’s also worth remembering that while the game in Europe is most certainly played at a high level, the competition isn’t as intense as the NBA. Therefore, Bryant could possibly play a few more years in the NBA – perhaps until he’s around 40 – and then head overseas before hanging up his Nike sneakers for good.
Whether it actually happens or not is yet to be seen, though watching Kobe and Pau play alongside each other once again would definitely be a fun experience for Laker fans.
