During his 19 years in the league, Shaquille O’Neal went to war alongside some of the best players in NBA history. From Penny Hardaway to Dwyane Wade to Kevin Garnett, the Big Fella played with some of the best to ever do it.
The two best players Shaq teamed up with were of course Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, but who is the better player in the eyes of the four-time NBA champion? Shaq recently gave his take on the Kobe-LeBron discussion during an interview with Antenna Mag:
“They’re different. LeBron is more of an all-around player — Hey this guy’s open, let me kick it to him. Kobe is more of, Oh, we’re down six? I’m going to shoot it three times and get us six points,” Shaq said. “But they’re both great players. It’s a matter of opinion. To me, Dr. J was the greatest player ever. But I ask other people, they say Jordan, some say Kobe, some people say LeBron. It’s always going to be a matter of opinion.”
Shaq is right.
As we mentioned about a week ago when Brandon Jennings declared Kobe the greatest player of all time, the GOAT discussion is all about your own personal preference. While one person may prefer a player who shares the ball, another might put a premium on post play or relentless scoring.
Therefore, at the end of the day, the GOAT discussion really is just a matter of opinion, and the same applies when it comes to choosing between Kobe and LeBron.
