Randle was projected to be a top-five pick earlier in the year, though reports of his problematic right foot caused him to slide down the draft boards.
However, the big man impressed the Lakers during a solo workout last week. Randle showed off a varied skill set and also impressed during a post workout interview.
“I think I should’ve went higher, but the team’s will regret it,” Randle said on ESPN shortly after his selection. “L.A. is the perfect spot for me. I get to play in a great city.”
Randle is thought to be one of the more NBA ready prospects in this year’s draft.
During one season at Kentucky, the 19-year-old averaged 15.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
