UPDATE: It’s official. Embiid is leaving Kansas after one season and is headed for the NBA.
It looks as if Joel Embiid is headed for the NBA.
According to a tweet from CBSSports.com’s Jeff Borzello, Embiid and Kansas Jayhawks head coach, Bill Self, will hold a press conference on Wednesday at noon Pacific time.
While the reasoning for the press conference hasn’t officially been announced, SNY.tv reported that the center would be using the opportunity to announce his declaration for the NBA draft in June.
This should come as no surprise seeing as Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowksi reported last month that Embiid would enter this year’s draft.
Embiid, who missed the NCAA tournament due to back problems, is projected to be a top-five pick on draft night and may even be a number one overall selection depending on his health.
This is good news for the Lakers, who are currently projected to have the sixth overall selection during June.
Now, all eyes will be on Duke star Jabari Parker as the basketball world awaits his decision on whether to make the leap to the NBA or return to college for another season.
