How do you like the idea of UConn’s Kevin Ollie coaching the Los Angeles Lakers? It seems to be something the purple and gold are seriously considering, so much so that the two sides are expected to meet “in [the] coming weeks,” according to Fox Sports’ Bill Reiter.
Reiter notes that Ollie, who is fresh off a 2014 NCAA championship win in only his second year as a head coach, plans to stay at the University of Connecticut, though he later admitted that coaches can be lured to the NBA due to the huge opportunity and the incredible amounts of money that can potentially be involved. Reiter used P.J. Carlesimo and Larry Brown as examples of this.
However, Mark Medina from the L.A. Daily News later said that the Lakers have yet to reach out to Ollie and no meeting has yet been scheduled.
Still, multiple reports have linked the Lakers to Ollie ever since Mike D’Antoni resigned last week, so it’s safe to assume that some kind of meeting – whether in person or over the phone – will happen in the near future.
