Magic Johnson as the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers? Say it ain’t so!
Yes, Donald Sterling is a horrible, horrible man and that team needs a new owner, but please, anyone but Magic!
The man who has been so closely attached to the Los Angeles Lakers for the past 35 years could soon be adding a little red to the blue and white he currently dons while attending L.A. Dodgers games.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Magic is “absolutely interested” in purchasing the Clippers from Sterling.
With the financial backing of the Guggenheim Partners – the same group who purchased the Dodgers – Magic could soon be the face of the Lakers’ crosstown rivals if the franchise can somehow be prized away from Sterling’s grasp, per Wojnarowski.
However, according to ESPN Los Angeles’ Ramona Shelburne, a source close to Magic says there’s been “zero, zero, zero conversations” about the five-time NBA champion purchasing the Clippers.
Of course, that could simply be because the Clippers aren’t for sale – yet – but let’s hope that Shelburne is right and no deal between Magic and Sterling can be reached.
Yes, Sterling needs to hit the road, but Magic needs to remain a Laker.
