With the Los Angeles Lakers on the cusp of amassing 50 losses, this isn’t the kind of rumor that most fans of the purple and gold will appreciate.

According to Kevin Ding from Bleacher Report, the Lakers are “leaning toward retaining [D’Antoni] despite some privately disgruntled players and massive public disdain.”

However, before you start rioting, Ding also notes that “it’s not clear which way the organization will go with him.”

Kobe Bryant reportedly has no interest in playing for D’Antoni again, while Pau Gasol – who the Lakers may attempt to re-sign this summer – isn’t exactly the best of pals with his head coach.

Mike Bresnahan from the L.A. Times reported last week that the Lakers would make a decision on D’Antoni’s fate “fairly quickly” at the end of the season.

However, at this point – and despite all the injury woes – I’d be surprised if D’Antoni is back with the Lakers next season.
