More free agent news! The Lakers worked out Rashad McCants and Patrick Beverley today according to HoopsHype:
The Los Angeles Lakers are working out Rashad McCants and Patrick Beverley today, one source told HoopsHype. Beverley was named MVP of the Eurocup (Europe’s second most important continental competition) last season.
McCants last played in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings back in 2009. He had a break out year with the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2007-08, when he scored nearly 15 points per game on 40% shooting from deep.
The Lakers and McCants have had interest in each other for a while now, with McCants working out for the team earlier in the year. He said that’s he’s been a “lifelong fan of the Lakers.”
Beverley – as HoopsHype noted – was the MVP of the Eurocup last season. The Lakers actually drafted him in 2009 but he chose to stay in Europe and L.A. no longer hold his rights.
Both players could possibly be training camp invites instead of signing up right now to a guaranteed contract. I’d like to see McCant’s get a shot for sure – I think he could be a great back-up for Kobe.
