Lonzo Ball: If I Play Bad On Sunday It’s Gonna Be Right Back To “He’s A Bust”

The 19-year-old rookie knows all too well that it makes no sense to listen to the critics

One game he’s a bust, the next he’s the future GOAT.

The opinions of fans and the media change day by day, and that was never more apparent than on Friday when Lonzo Ball bounced back from a mediocre opening night performance on Thursday by putting up 29 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists less than 24 hours later.

In the locker room after the game, a reporter asked Ball for his thoughts on the basketball world jumping to conclusions after his NBA debut.

The 19-year-old’s response was perfect.

“This happened before. It happened in Summer League, it’s happened throughout my career so I’m used to it,” Ball said. “If I play bad on Sunday it’s gonna be right back to ‘he’s a bust’ so it don’t really matter to me. I’m just gonna come out, play as hard as I can and try to get the team win.”

That’s exactly the right attitude to have.

The Lakers next play on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans at Staples Center.
