Magic want Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard, Lakers willing to send him

And so the Dwight Howard roller coaster continues. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Orlando Magic are targeting Andrew Bynum in a Dwight Howard trade. Jarrod N. Rudolph tweeted that the Lakers are willing to send Metta World Peace along with Bynum to Orlando for Howard as long as he’d agree to an extension.

The Lakers and Magic have had talks about a possible deal, and plan to talk further about constructing a trade. No deals are imminent, and the process has remained fluid as teams have begun to inquire with more serious offers for Howard. – Yahoo! Sports

The Lakers would also likely need to take back a large contract from the Magic, the report says, meaning either Jason Richardson or Hedo Turkoglu.

Yahoo! Sports sources also told them that Howard could make “perhaps double” in a possible new Adidas deal while playing in Los Angeles, which is yet another incentive to play there. The Lakers would also own his Bird Rights, meaning they could offer him more to re-sign with them than any other team next summer.

Kobe Bryant and Howard reportedly fell out over a year ago, but Y! Sports sources don’t see that being a problem:

Nevertheless, Bryant and Howard do have history together with Team USA, and there’s a belief among those who know them that the bond of chasing a title would ultimately bring them together.

“They would fight for the first week of training camp, and then be best buddies by the start of the preseason games,” one league source who knows both Bryant and Howard well told Yahoo! Sports. “They need each other to win.”

Stay tuned for more updates on the situation.
