Game recognize game.
Shortly after Kobe Bryant passed Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list for third overall, MJ himself released a statement to congratulate the Black Mamba.
Bryant passed Jordan with a pair of free throws against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night.
“I congratulate Kobe on reaching this milestone,” Jordan said in a statement, according to Jon Krawczynski from the Associated Press. “He’s obviously a great player, with a strong work ethic and has an equally strong passion for the game of basketball. I’ve enjoyed watching his game evolve over the years, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.”
This was a classy move by Jordan. He didn’t need to release a statement, yet he decided to do so and acknowledged a massive accomplishment by someone with a competitive drive just as strong as his.
However, despite the pleasantries you just know that Jordan would do anything right now to put that jersey back on and regain the lead over his understudy.
Once a competitor, always a competitor…
