When Kanye West dropped his new song “Facts” on New Year’s Eve, Twitter went crazy. Especially Lakers Twitter.
“Facts” is essentially a diss track aimed at Nike, the shoe company Kanye used to have a deal with before leaving for Adidas, much like Lakers player Nick Young.
West used this opportunity to mention Young on his new track, along with fellow Adidas signee James Harden.
Tell Adidas that we need a million in production
I done told y’all, all I needed was the infrastructure
Now we hottest in the streets, it ain’t no discussion
James Harden, Swaggy P runnin’ up the budget
Shortly after the track dropped, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson commented on Twitter, as did Swaggy P himself.
“I can hear Nick rapping that line through all shoot around tomorrow and during the game he losing his mind right now lol,” Clarkson said.
“Nike just die 5 hrs b4 2016,” Young tweeted.
Young told L.A. Daily News reporter Mark Medina that “Facts” is “the number one song out.”
“Go get it, man,” Young said, per Medina. “It’s the best song, man.”
And Clarkson was right about Young giving the team his own rendition of “Facts.”
“He played the song before he ran out,” Jordan Clarkson told Medina. “Then he was running around here in his tights singing the song in his Yeezy boots.”
Of course, Young is taking the whole thing in his stride, and he doesn’t seem all that surprised by the name drop.
“I’m just a Swaggy-type person,” Young said.
Never change, Nick. Never change.
