Reggie Bullock is a 28 year old basketball player in the NBA. Does Reggie Bullock still play for the Lakers? The answer is no. His contract expired at the end of the 2017-2018 season and he was signed up by the New York Knicks. Reggie Bullock’s position has alternated between shooting guard and small forward.

After a relatively slow start, Reggie Bullock’s career has had an impressive past few seasons, notably with the Detroit Pistons and the LA Lakers. His points per game picked up significantly, and Bullock will be hoping he can continue this form with the New York Knicks this season.

Reggie Bullock news stories haven’t always been about basketball. Sadly, Bullock suffered a family tragedy when his transgender sister was murdered in Baltimore in 2014. He has since become a strong LGBT campaigner.

Early career

Reggie Bullock was born in Baltimore on 16 March 1991. He won two state championships with his high school, Kingston High Vikings, and one runner up medal. In his final high school year, Bullock averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds per game. This got him into the AP All-State men’s team for the 2009-2010 season.

Bullock received a lot of scholarship offers from colleges across the US. Ultimately, Bullock decided to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Unfortunately, he suffered his first major injury in his freshman season, tearing his lateral meniscus in 2011.

He returned from injury for his sophomore year. Bullock led the team for the amount of three pointers made and was the fourth leading scorer in the team. He remained relatively injury free for his sophomore and junior years. His college career ended with an average of 9.9 points, 5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Los Angeles Clippers

After a good college career, Reggie Bullock entered the 2013 NBA Draft. While he wasn’t necessarily going to be the first pick, he would be a valuable youth prospect for whoever signed him up. Reggie Bullock’s NBA draft pick was 25th overall, and he went to the Los Angeles Clippers.

After signing his first professional contract, he joined up with the Clippers for their Summer League before making his NBA debut in the Hallway Series against the LA Lakers. During his time at the Staples Centre, the Clippers would dominate the Hallway Series against the Lakers.

In his two seasons with the Clippers, Bullock averaged 2.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

Phoenix Suns

Reggie Bullock was traded to the Phoenix Suns on 15 January 2015. Bullock made his debut against the Clippers but was subsequently sent to the NBA G League to gain experience from more game time. He played for the Bakersfield Jam, who are now known as the Northern Arizona Suns.

In his first game in the NBA G League he scored 29 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. He was subsequently recalled to the Suns. He played 11 games in seven months with the Suns, averaging 0.4 points, 0.2 assists, 0.2 blocks and playing 6.8 minutes per game.

Detroit Pistons

Reggie Bullock was traded to the Detroit Pistons on 9 July 2015. Bullock achieved his best run of form with the Pistons over four seasons.

After trading to the Pistons, injuries to his hip and back delayed his debut. Once Bullock made his debut, he only lasted four games before injury set him back again. He suffered another tear to the left knee meniscus. This forced him to undergo surgery to repair his knee.

Hundreds of people sat in Detroit Pistons playing arena, with four large TV screen hanging from the ceiling.

Bullock returned stronger after surgery. In December 2017, he hit a rich vein of form. He scored 20 points against the Orlando Magic, followed by a career high 22 points against the San Antonio Spurs.

The following year would usher in further career-high points performances. After topping his career-best with 23 points against the Charlotte Hornets in November 2018, he would have another exceptional December. Bullock scored 24 points against the Milwaukee Bucks and 33 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves. This form would peak the interest of the LA Lakers scouts, who were hoping to sign a player to push for the NBA Playoffs.

For Bullocks last two seasons at the Pistons, he averaged 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

Los Angeles Lakers

In January 2018, the LA Lakers were in the market for a forward to help them push for the NBA Playoffs. A prolonged attempt to secure the services of Anthony Davis were unsuccessful at this point. With the Lakers schedule casting doubts over their chances of making the playoffs, the team was low on morale.

For the Lakers, news of Bullock’s form and contract meant that he was a viable alternative. The Reggie Bullock trade took place on 6 February 2019. Bullock had been in the form of his career, and his contract would be up at the end of the season, meaning the Lakers could continue their pursuit of Anthony Davis at the end of the season.

The Lakers are currently on their longest ever NBA Playoff drought. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Reggie Bullock wasn’t able to inspire them to a playoff finish. Reggie Bullock’s Lakers form was good, and he provided an average of 9.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.

At the end of the season, Bullock’s contract was not renewed and he became a free agent for the 2019 – 2020 season. The surgery was a success, and Bullock will be hoping to push on from his 2018-2019 season to find his best form yet. If any fans have followed his career, they will know to check in on the New York Knicks in December to see if he continues his December career topping form.
