We all know that Kevin Durant is the big name that everyone will be chasing in free agency this summer, but there is also another player who has been linked to the Lakers a few times already over the last few months.

L.A. native DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors is set to hit the market this summer, and he’s “a very, very likely candidate for the Lakers” once July gets here, according to Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding.

“DeMar DeRozan is a very, very likely candidate for the Lakers,” Ding said. “He’s from L.A., he’s gonna be a free agent. He loves Kobe. He grew up idolizing Kobe. So, when you start to look at the options, guys that aren’t afraid to follow in Kobe’s footsteps, DeRozan is not [afraid]. He would be a great add.”

As mentioned above, this isn’t the first time DeRozan has been linked to the Lakers in recent times.

Back in January, the Toronto Sun reported that the Lakers “have long had interest” in DeRozan and are expected to pursue him this summer.

While Ding listed his two “dream” free agents for the Lakers as Durant and Al Horford, he said DeRozan would be a good backup target, as well as big man Joakim Noah from the Chicago Bulls.

“If you look at the center spot, Joakim Noah [is] also another possibility,” Ding said. “These are the kind of guys the Lakers need to grab. Quality players, first of all, but also good character guys because that’s what they want to build going forward, is doing things the right way, guys who can help all the young players who are coming in develop into champions for the Lakers going forward.”

The Lakers could have around $60 million to spend during free agency this summer, so they’ll surely be adding quite a few new names to the roster once we enter the month of July.
