Jodie Meeks has been great so far this season. It really looks like Meeks worked on his game over the summer and is no longer just a spot-up three-point shooter.
It appears that teams around the league have noticed Meeks’ improvement, especially the Memphis Grizzlies, who according to Ric Bucher, recently proposed a Meeks for Jerryd Bayless swap:
[pullquote]The Memphis Grizzlies are clearly looking to shake up their roster. While the Zach Randolph-to-New Orleans rumors were dismissed by a league source, a Lakers source says they were offered a swap of scoring guards, Jerryd Bayless for Jodie Meeks.[/pullquote]
Meeks is having a career year and is currently averaging 12.8 points per game while shooting 41 percent from deep, while Bayless is averaging just 7.9 points and 2.0 assists per game and is making just 27 percent of his shots from three-point range.
The Lakers do need point guard help, though I’m not so sure this deal would be all that appetizing to them seeing as Meeks has been one of the team’s best players so far this season.
Bayless makes more than Meeks – though his contract expires this coming summer, just like Jodie’s – so the Lakers would have to add another contract if they wanted to go ahead with this deal.
