Steve Nash out tonight; Steve Blake to start in his place

The Lakers will be without Steve Nash tonight due to his hamstring strain and hip problems; Steve Blake will start in his place, according to Lakers PR.

Nash only played the opening minutes versus the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night, before asking to leave the game due to the pain. Los Angeles wants to hold him out until he’s ready to go to avoid any long-term damage.

Blake has been playing well as of late, so hopefully he’ll be able to fill the hole left by Nash to the best of his abilities. The absence of Nash and Blake’s promotion off the bench will also mean Mike D’Antoni will have to call upon either Chris Duhon or Darius Morris to give Blake a rest. Duhon got the call last game, so we could possibly expect the same tonight.

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both stepped up their facilitating with Nash leaving the game in Sacramento: The pair combined for 24 assists, so don’t be surprised if the duo look to replicate that tonight versus the Dallas Mavericks.
