Like many young players these days, Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield has been a huge fan of Kobe Bryant for years now – probably for as long as he can remember, actually, seeing as he’s just 22-years-old.

And on Thursday night, after beating Texas A&M in Anaheim, Hield finally got to meet his basketball hero.

However, Hield wasn’t sure if he’d get the chance to meet his idol, as the text message below shows:

Back in January, Hield spoke about his admiration for the Black Mamba.

“I like his swag on the court and the killer mentality he brings to the game,” Hield said of Bryant, according to Spenser Davis of OU Daily. “He’s going to score a bucket on you no matter who is in front of him or whether it’s two or three guys, he’s going to find a way to get a bucket. I love that killer instinct he has.”

Hield’s going to tell his grandkids about this one.
