There are a lot of changes happening in the team at the moment. Here’s a quick overview of some of them.

The Lakers will not renew the contract of the head athletic trainer, Nina Hsieh

According to ESPN, after an injury-riddled season of 2020/21, the Lakers made the decision to let go of their current head athletic coach.

Hsieh, who’s worked in the club for over ten years, was appointed to this position two years ago.

In total, the Lakers’ players missed 201 matches during this season. The forward LeBron James missed 26 out of the last 30 matches of the team, Anthony Davis missed 36 games.

Kidd is leaving the Lakers

For a while, there were rumours about Jason Kidd, Lakers assistant,  being the primary candidate for the Dallas basketball club’s head coach as soon as the club begins selecting the candidates for this position.

The Mavericks were focused on selecting a new general manager ever since Donnie Nelson had been dismissed. One of the candidates was the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Dallas Mavericks, Michael Finley. Recently, Finley and other experienced employees of the club met up with the owner Mark Cuban. They had a conversation about the new head coach for the team, and Finley nominated Kidd’s candidacy.

Another candidate for the position of Dallace’s head coach was assistant Jamahl Mosley, who has a good work relationship with the star point guard Luka Doncic.

Kidd, aged 48, joined Frank Vogel and the Lakers coaching staff in 2019. Before that, he was the head of Milwaukee from 2014 to 2018 and the head of Brooklin from 2013 to 2014.

The Dallas club had selected Kidd with the 2nd pick on the 1994 draft and traded to the Suns in 1996.

He returned to the club in 2008 and performed for the Mavericks until 2012, becoming an NBA champion in 2011. It was then that Mavericks was impressed by the leadership skills of the point guard and saw him as the future coach of the team.

Who else thought that Kidd would make a good head coach?

Carlisle, aged 61, is now a new head coach of Indiana, but he worked for the Mavericks from 2008 to 2021 and shared his opinion on who should take up the head coach position. According to him, it is difficult to point out a specific person, but he has a feeling that if it is Kidd,  this cooperation will be good for both sides.

Carlisle hoped Kidd would be the next Mavs’ because he remembers what kind of player Jason was, and he has so much in common with Luka Doncic.

Carlisle’s expectations became true, and the Mavs officially signed Jason Kidd as their head coach a few days ago.

LeBron James, the star forward of the Lakers, reacted to the appointment of Jason Kidd to the position in his Twitter account:

“Damn I hate to lose JKidd man but damn I’m happy for him at the same time! Good luck, Kidd!”

Kidd worked as a lead assistant in the Lakers for two seasons.

Philip Anschutz sells stake in Lakers

Billionaire Philip Anschutz, the founder of AEG and the owner of Staples Center, has agreed to sell his share in the Lakers to Mark Walter and Todd Bowley, the two owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club. He owned a 27 per cent stake.

The value of the Lakers is estimated at more than 5 billion dollars. Thus, the share of Walter and Bowley in the club owned by the Buss would be around 1.35 billion.

The deal had to be approved by the NBA Board of Governors.

The Buss family owns 66 per cent of the Lakers’ shares and is not planning on selling them.
